St Andrews Taxi - Taxi Services St Andrews
Taxi drivers in Dundee are being urged to be vigilant following reports of break-ins at taxi ranks across the city. Cash has been stolen from cabs in Fintry Drive, Findchapel Place and Alloway Place in Linlathen.
The UK’s largest fleet of 100% electric taxis entered service in Dundee today. These 30 Nissan LEAFs, operated by 203020 Electric, are a welcome addition to the City of Discovery.
Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs)
The term “WAV” is used by manufacturers, dealers and organisations to refer to vehicles that can be fitted with a ramp or lift to allow wheelchair users to travel safely. These vehicles are licensed as For-Hire Vehicles (FHV) by the TLC and must pass a WAV inspection.
Small WAVs are converted from compact cars or MPVs and usually have space for the driver, one or two other passengers and a wheelchair. Some conversions allow the wheelchair user to sit either in the back seat or upfront next to the driver (drive-from-wheelchair WAVs).
Consider who you travel with on a regular basis – will you be travelling alone, with family and friends or enjoying karaoke carpooling? Make sure that the height of your wheelchair will fit within the vehicle and that you can operate the tie downs comfortably. It’s also worth thinking about whether you can easily see out of the windows and have enough headroom above your chair to avoid hitting your head on the ceiling when moving.
Licensed Taxi Drivers st andrews
Licences for private hire cars and taxis can be obtained from a number of places, including official ranks around the city or by pre-booking with a taxi company. Some services offer child seats and wheelchair-accessible vehicles. Drivers are licensed by local authorities and should be able to provide proof of their identity and vehicle insurance. Some services also allow passengers to track their taxis, so they can be assured that they are using a genuine service.
5.5 Licensing authorities should consider the impact of any restrictions they may have in place on the quality of taxi and private hire car provision in their area. They should be prepared to review these restrictions, particularly where there is evidence that they are resulting in a significant amount of unmet demand.
It is considered good practice for licensing authorities to request confirmation from taxi and private hire car licence holders that partition screens comply with the specification set out in Guidance on Partition Screens in Taxis and Private Hire Cars published July 2021.

Taxi Fares
Taxi tariffs are set by each city or district and are bound by official tariff ordinances. They cannot be exceeded or undercut and are ensured by taximeters that are officially calibrated. During normal hours, the taxi fare is based on mileage and time of day. However, night fares are not in effect for class A and B taxis.
For class C taxis used for chauffeur services, weddings, funerals, and courtesy transport, separate fares are set by the taxi operator. Drivers can also earn money for ‘dead miles’ - the distance a driver travels with an empty taxi to and from a booking, which is not charged for.
The app calculates taxi prices by entering the start and end points of your journey and comparing them with available routes - including factors such as traffic delays. Its calculations are based on Google Places to allow fast and correct route entry. These results are estimates, which may differ from the actual fare due to external factors such as weather, tolls, works (available routes), different car companies and human error.
